TRINITY VILLAGE'S NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH CRUISER

Incident Update: June/July 2009
There have been several near accidents with golf carts and ATV vehicles in the Village.  These included: golf carts on the wrong side  of the road with near head ons; golf carts racing with numerous children hanging on to each cart; spin outs, veering off the road, etc.  Reminder that the vehicle code does not allow such vehicles (even if driven by adult licensed drivers) on our county roads here in the Village. Our fire department dreads the day that they will have to respond to an accident with serious injuries and or potential fatalities of children.

A break in burglary was also reported within the Village.  The Trinity County Sheriff's Office took a report.  Remember to secure all windows and doors and have someone ( a neighbor or Neighborhood Watch members) check on your property while you are away.

Incident Update: January 5, 2008

Over the past 2 weeks there have been reports of heavy gauge shots fired within the Village. The Sheriff's office took a report on December 22, 2007 at around 9:30 p.m. from a citizen on Madrone Lane who had his wife hide in their hallway due to the close proximity of the shots.

Tuesday October 9, 2007 high winds severed a tree at the entrance of Lone Pine causing a downed power line and loss of power to some of the residences in the Village. The Hawkins Bar Volunteer Fire Department blocked off the road due to the hazard and notified PG&E.

As of October 1, 2007 the Sheriff's Report has logged in 3 thefts of marijuana plants and/or tops of plants from the Hawkins Bar area. Numerous reports of gunshots within the vacinity of the Village were also reported.

On Thursday March 22, a Hawkins Bar resident was arrested by the Trinity County Sheriff's office along with Federal Drug Enforcement agents after a search warrant found a large amount (30 pounds) of marijuana along with some cocaine and hashish.

On Friday January 26, a Village resident reports to the Neighborhood Watch that his storeage shed was entered and rifled through. He also reported that screws were removed from his screen door at the rear of his house.

Kudos to our Neighborhood Watch Patrol!!
When patrolling the Village January 15th Audrey and Kent Brown spotted a major water break at a residence. They reported it to Neighborhood Watch coordinator Gary Standley and fellow patroler Vince Freemantle who shut off the water main at the residence. Yesterday (January 14th) Vince also spotted another water line break at another Village residence and shut off the water there also.

On Monday January 1, 2007, the Trinity Sheriff's Department reports that a man reported that his intoxicated neighbor was shooting a shotgun and that the shot was landing in his yard.

On Thursday November 2nd, the Trinity Sheriff's Department reports that a Village resident said his neighbor came into his yard and took his marijuana plants.

In October two 911 callers reported gunshots and large, sky-burst fireworks northeast of Trinity Village. The barrage continued over a period of 30 minutes or so.

An attempted break in at a residence in the Village was also reported to the Neighborhood Watch in October.

Over the past few months a car and a truck were stolen in the Village. Both vehicles were recovered. However, the car was totaled. The thieves have not been caught. An attempted theft of another vehicle was reported about the same time as the theft of the truck

Call 911

The Trinity County Sheriff's Department has activated a methamphetamine hotline in hopes that tips will pour in from people reluctant to go through other channels. Although it is called a methamphetamine hotline, persons can call to report on other drugs as well. To report any suspected drug activity, call (530) 623-8116

Callers can provide information anonymously over the hotline. However, providing your name does lend credibility and make it easier to obtain a search warrant. Contrary to what many believe, it does not mean that the caller will have to testify in court.

Hotline callers will reach the answering machine of Sgt. Royce "Butch" Grossman (the officer in charge of narcotics) and Narcotics Officer Omar Brown. If callers wish to speak to one of the officers directly, they can leave a message or call through dispatch at (530) 623-2611.

TVIA's Neighborhood Watch

The Hawkins Bar/Trinity Village Neighborhood Watch is supported and sponsored by your TVIA dues and is part of the Trinity County Sheriff's Department and under the supervision of Undersheriff Eric Palmer. The specific purpose of the citizen patrol is the prevention of crime in Trinity County. The Neighborhood Watch Program uses public outreach and education by training and operating volunteer teams to assist law enforcement. All volunteers are subject to a background check by the Sheriff's office. These volunteers patrol neighborhoods, make home and business security checks, traffic or special event control, or similar duties as may be requested by law enforcement agencies. They are the extended "eyes and ears" of law enforcement, providing information to assist crime reduction efforts in their neighborhoods in Trinity County.

Since 2005, our Neighborhood Watch Patrol has grown from 2 to 15 members. In addition to Gary and Nancy Standley, fellow patrollers are Rogene Rawlins, Carol Draper, Naomi Hunt, Vince and Anita Freemantle, Audrey and Kent Brown, Diana Lynn, Mary Brown, Ron Wermes, Gary and Charlotte Dodson, and Dorothy Fullam. You can see the "cruiser" patrolling around at various times. Say hello and let them know if you have any concerns, want them to do vacation checks on your home, or if there is a need for a welfare check on someone who is elderly or ill. Working as a team for the betterment of our neighborhood is their goal. If you would like to discuss this, get information, or become a volunteer patroller contact Gary Standley (629-2415).

Due to our rural setting, we also need to be concerned about the welfare of Village residents and their property. Get to know your neighbors. In addition to having their Village phone numbers, be sure to have any other contact phone numbers. We all must be on the alert for any suspicious activity. Be sure to call the appropriate authorities if necessary.
